Aasma Shaukat, MD, MPH, FACG, is the Section Chief of GI at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and Associate Program Professor at the University of Minnesota. Broadly, Dr. Shaukat's research interests are colorectal cancer screening, translational and clinical research on gastrointestinal cancers, and chemoprevention among average-risk individuals, and those with IBD. She is studying quality indicators for colonoscopy and molecular markers of interval cancers. Her work involves understanding the pathways by which colon polyps develop and progress to colon cancer, developing and validating biomarkers of risk of colon cancer, identifying long-term benefits of CRC screening, and studying the effect of chemoprevention on reducing this risk.
