Mario Reis Alvares-da-Silva, MD, PhD is Professor of Hepatology at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil, and Senior Lecturer in Gastroenterology, University of São Paulo, Brazil. He also serves as Head of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, university hospital of UFRGS. Councilor or the International Association for the Study of the Liver, he is also director of the World Gastroenterology Organisation Porto Alegre Hepatology Training Center and of the Project Echo Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre. He has published several articles in international peer-reviewed journals, such as Gut, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, World Journal of Hepatology, Annals of Hepatology, and the International Journal of Cardiology. He has an h-index of 14 and an i10-index of 20 (Google Scholar, April 2017). He is currently co-editor of the e-World Gastroenterology News.

Dr. Kwo is currently Professor of Medicine and Chief of Hepatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He joined the faculty at Stanford in 2016 after spending 21 years at Indiana University. He has distinguished himself in the field of chronic hepatitis C and liver transplantation, and has a large practice devoted to current and novel therapies for the treatment of hepatitis C. He has won multiple awards, both at the university, local, and national level. He is a member of the ACG Board of Trustees.
