Office & Shopping Hours
Vancouver, like all major cities, runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In general, the standard work week is Monday to Friday, from roughly 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, but hours vary for each organization or business. Retailers are usually open seven days a week, and most stores are open from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm each day, except on Thursday and Friday, when many stores are open until 9:00 pm. Some retail stores (e.g. some drug stores and grocery outlets), nearly every hotel and motel, and some restaurants, remain open around the clock.
Government agencies keep to limited weekday only hours, often closing around 17h00.
Most stores, cinemas and restaurants are open on most public holidays. The exceptions are Christmas Day, December 25 and New Year's Day, January 1.
Your enjoyment and wellbeing during your stay in Vancouver are of the utmost importance. Conferences are unfortunately targeted by criminals and it is important that delegates take full responsibility for items such as cellphones and laptops at all times. Conference organisers cannot be held responsible for any losses.
Most parts of the country and city can be safely visited by tourists, provided they take basic common-sense precautions. The area around the Convention Centre and adjacent hotels is safe and well- monitored at all times. Basic safety guidelines are available at hotels, tourism information offices and at the conference welcome desk.
