Target Audience: Professionals
Employment coalitions play an important role in increasing the numbers of individuals with disabilities in the work force. This session will provide information on how to find partnering organizations, as well as schools to aide in creating employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We will discuss how to forge connections with businesses to increase employment and networking opportunities for individuals with I/DD and discover how to develop events that will encourage local businesses to learn about the benefits of employing individuals with disabilities, as well as how to form successful relationships with local schools to aide in the transition from school to work. Participants will also learn how successful employment coalitions are able to reduce the fears of families as their loved ones transition into the work force and how competing organizations can work together to find employment for those we serve. Videos that show successful employment coalition events from the Pennsylvania region and testimonials from individuals currently participating in them will be shown. The session will conclude with a collaborative discussion on how the participants in the audience are generating successful employment opportunities in their community.
