An Innovative Sex Ed Curriculum for Persons with Disabilities

Friday, November 3
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Location: Seabreeze

Target Audience: Professionals

Several years ago we were asked to create an innovative curriculum on sex education and relationships for people with disabilities by The Arc of Blair County (PA). The need for this curriculum was due to the increasing risk of individuals with disabilities going to jail for sexual behaviors and/or being victimized. The curriculum was written and has seen significant positive results. It is unlike anything else in the market right now and can provide help to individuals throughout the lifespan.

This session will talk about puberty, sexual expression, relationships, rights, and how to reduce sexually inappropriate behaviors. This interactive presentation will go over different ways to present information to individuals and why it's so important to have these discussions. Participants will leave with tools that they can take back to use in family homes, group homes, and day programs, as well as knowledge of this exciting curriculum.
