Psychologist, Multicultural Specialist
Dr. Xuhua Qin is currently a licensed psychologist and Multicultural Specialist working for Tufts University Counseling and Mental Health Services. Her work includes individual and group psychotherapy, supervision to counselors in training, consultation to faculty/staff/administrator/ parents, development of outreach programs on campus and in communities, and presentations in university settings and in conference. She received her BS degree on Applied Psychology and M.Ed degree on Educational Psychology from Beijing Normal University, and then Ph.D. degree on Counseling Psychology from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. In her professional career, she worked for several university counseling centers across states and specialized on mental health treatment and prevention for international students. She does regular workshops to students, parents, and faculties/staffs on promoting mental wellbeing among international students, addressing stigma related to mental health issue, helping international students to better adjust to the new academic and cultural environment, and promoting dialogues and self -reflection on cultural differences and identity development. She also presents in professional conferences, aiming to bring topics of international student and mental wellness to multidisciplinary areas. Dr. Qin received Diversity Leadership Mentoring Award granted by Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors in 2013.
