An understanding of international meeting protocol is vital for building and maintaining relationships with international partners. Discuss challenges faced and model practices for international visit protocol/ etiquette. This open meeting is jointly hosted by the Education Abroad and International Enrollment Management Knowledge Communities.

Helen Sophia Chua Balderama

Associate Director, International Partnerships and Programs
York University

Helen Balderama is the Associate Director, International Partnerships and Programs at York University (Toronto, Canada). Helen has more than 15 years of professional experience in the international education field. She started her career in 2001 as Development Officer for the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines in the Department of Foreign Affairs (Manila, Philippines). She then moved to Singapore where she worked as Program Manager and Special Advisor to the Education section of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), an intergovernmental not-for-profit organization with headquarters in Singapore. In 2013, Helen joined University of Manitoba (UM) where she continued to champion international education cooperation at the UM International Office and Division of Extended Education. Helen blogs and volunteers for education associations such as CBIE, AIEA and was recently appointed NAFSA’s International Outreach Coordinator (2017-2018). She holds a BA Philosophy from the University of the Philippines, a Post Graduate Diploma on Cultural Projects for Development from the International Training centre of International Labour Organization in Torino, Italy and an MA Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (NUS).

Evelyn R. Levinson

Director, International Admissions

Evelyn Levinson has promoted international education opportunities for over 30 years. Her global experience as the EducationUSA advising director for Fulbright Israel, higher education scholarship specialist at USAID West Bank/Gaza, USF-Tampa international admissions associate director, and now international admissions director at American University, Washington, DC, have strengthened her commitment to the importance of international education for global tolerance and understanding. Levinson is an active NAFSA member and trainer, presenting and serving stateside and overseas in numerous national leadership positions since 1994. She is the 2007 recipient of the Homer Higbee Award and the 2015 NAFSA Awardee for Outstanding Contributions to IEM. She was 2011 national chair of the Recruitment, Admissions, and Preparation Knowledge Community (now IEM KC) and first LDC Chair. She has authored numerous articles and publications on international education and was project coordinator for the U.S. State Department's 2001 series "If You Want to Study in the United States."

Levinson is the author of numerous articles and publications on strategic international enrollment management; presenter and trainer for Department of State's ECA, NAFSA, WES Educational Services, VOA, NACAC International Initiatives, International ACAC, and American University; and AU project coordinator for the 2017 video #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign (https://youtu.be/aDox6miwphw)

She is the founder of international women’s empowerment and networking organization “Women of the World for Women of Spirit ("http://www.wow4wos.org" www.wow4wos.org), 2001-present.
