Classroom diversity is on the rise as community demographics shift. The increasing diversity of today’s K-12 schools means that the students who teachers encounter in classrooms come from an ever-expanding array of backgrounds. In order to successfully teach students within the complex and globally-interdependent classroom environment, teachers must be better prepared to understand diversity in their profession. This colloquium will focus on model practices and programs in global learning, innovative curricular designs, and assessment tools used to evaluate progress. Participants will work in small groups, with expert facilitators, and discuss how to prepare teachers for the diverse student populations they will work with through the development of cultural and global competencies.
