International educators share their experiences in book publishing, including finding a publisher, writing a book proposal, the writing and editing process, marketing, and working with chapter authors as an editor. Presenters offer pragmatic tips on the process and common challenges and take questions from the audience.

Katherine Punteney

Dr. Katherine Punteney is a faculty member of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies where she teaches courses in International Education Management and Intercultural Competence. Her previous roles include Coordinator of International Student Services and Campus Internationalization at California State University, Chico and Program Manager for the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts international center in Pune, India. Her research focuses on internationalization and intercultural education.

Elizabeth Brewer

Elizabeth (Betsy) Brewer is Director of International Education at Beloit College, a 2011 recipient of NAFSA’s Simon Award. She has presented on international education and study abroad at AIEA, NAFSA, Forum, and ACE conferences. Publications include Assessing Study Abroad: Theory, Tools, and Practice (Stylus, 2015) (co-editor: Vic Savicki), “The Internationalization of the Curriculum” (co-author: Betty Leask) in The SAGE Handbook of International Higher Education (2012), and Integrating Study Abroad into the Curriculum: Theory and Practice Across the Disciplines (Stylus, 2009) (co-editor: Kiran Cunningham). She has held positions at the University of Massachusetts, Boston University, and the New School University.

Hilary E. Kahn

Indiana University School of Global and International Studies

Hilary Kahn is Assistant Dean for International Education and Global Initiatives and Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Global Change in the School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University. She is also faculty in the Department of International Studies and the Director of the Ph.D. Minor in Global Studies. She is also President of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA). Her areas of research and expertise include global teaching and learning, visual anthropology, global studies, transnational identities, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the internationalization of higher education. Her books include Framing the Global: Entry Points for Research (2014, Indiana University Press) and Seeing and Being Seen: The Q'eqchi' Maya of Guatemala and Beyond (2006, University of Texas Press). Professor Kahn received her Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo in Cultural Anthropology in 2002.

Laura E. Rumbley

Associate Director Knowledge Development & Research
European Association for International Education (EAIE)

Laura E. Rumbley is Associate Director Knowledge Development and Research for the European Association for International Education (EAIE), based in Amsterdam. She served from 2012 to 2018 as Associate Director and Assistant Professor of the Practice at the Boston College Center for International Higher Education (CIHE), where she is currently a Research Fellow. Her research and teaching focus largely on national and institutional experiences with internationalization of higher education from a comparative perspective. Laura is a co-editor of the "Journal of Studies in International Education" (SAGE), and serves on the editorial advisory boards of "International Higher Education" (Boston College) and "Studies in Higher Education" (Routledge). Laura is a former Deputy Director of the Brussels-based Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) and a former US Foreign Service Officer.
