This session will examine the do's, don’ts, and musts when working with student recruitment agencies. Learn to recruit high-quality agents, establish a well-designed communication channel, and how to track your return on investment.

Allison Forbes

Director of Student Affairs
Virginia International University

Allison Forbes is the Director of Student Affairs at Virginia International University. She has co-developed the Leadership and Mentorship Program with her supervisor Dr. Bahceci. She has also created the Student Imitative Program which provides extra support to students and faculty. She has also assisted with developing the sports club program at their university. Besides working in the Student Affairs department, she has also taught psychology courses. Previously, Allison worked as a Student Success Coordinator and as a full-time Psychology Instructor.

Suleyman Bahceci

Executive Vice President
Virginia International University

Dr. Suleyman Bahceci is the Executive Vice President of University Affairs at Virginia International University. He received his MA and PhD degrees from the University of Texas, Austin, and his BSc and MSc degrees from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. His commitment to improving the quality of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education prompted his involvement in education reform movement through starting up charter schools and non-profit education organizations. In 2003, he co-founded Willow Education, a non-profit public benefit corporation, aimed at promoting science and technology education in public schools. As the president of Willow Education, he initiated and led numerous projects, the most important of which was the BayTech-Oakland project, a public charter school located in the underserved community of Oakland. In 2007, he joined a group of high performing school leaders to found the Accord Institute for Education Research. While volunteering in the education community, Dr. Bahceci worked for nine years as a research scientist at Exelixis Inc., a biotechnology company in San Francisco, California. In 2009, he joined Magnolia Educational and Research Foundation as the CEO. Under his leadership, the number of Magnolia Public Schools and their student enrollment doubled in size in three years. In 2012, he joined Accord Institute for Education Research, which provides a wide variety of education services to public schools in five states. His visionary focus on data and STEM transformed the client schools into high-achieving schools.

Ian Cann

Director, Americas
ICEF

Ian Cann is Director, Americas with ICEF, working with new and existing customers in effectively using agents to maximize international student recruitment. Ian has been involved in international student recruitment for a decade, and regularly presents at international conferences on the subject of working with international recruitment agents, international marketing, and regional market intelligence.
Previously, Ian was involved in international education as a sales and operations representative for Salão do Estudante/Expo Estudiante, based in Salvador, Brazil, where he gained experience in the Latin American market.
Prior to that, Ian was based in London, working for Time Inc. on some of the most popular magazines and websites in Britain.
Ian gained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Philosophy from the University of Leeds in the UK in 2005. He speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese and is currently based in Barcelona.
