April worked in the Netherlands for 5 years before joining the Education Abroad staff at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has over 10 years of experience advising students on study abroad opportunities in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands and works closely with the University’s Colleges of Engineering and Natural Sciences to integrate study abroad options into the academic curricula. April holds an Ed.D. in Educational Policy & Leadership from UMass Amherst and has published in the Journal of Studies in International Education about factors that influence student intent to and participation in study abroad. Her current interests related to study abroad are curriculum integration, strategies to increase STEM major participation and identifying and removing barriers to study abroad.
Senior International Officer
University of Sussex
Gareth began work in International Education 10 years ago, spending the first year of his career with the British Council Education UK team before developing a career in marketing within local government and subsequently beginning work as an International Officer for the University of York. At York, Gareth gained exposure to international student recruitment across five continents and 12 countries, developing three of these as new sources of students for York.
Since moving to the University of Sussex in 2013 as a Senior International Officer, Gareth has focused solely on the Americas region achiveing 20% growth in student numbers over the four recruitment cycles in the role. In the role at Sussex, Gareth has augmented recruitment expertise with additional specialist skills including partnership development, exchange network development, visiting student recruitment and development of sponsor relations. Gareth also manages and develops the international marketing collateral for the University.
Gareth is currently serving in the role of Acting Head of International Recruitment and meanwhile is studying for a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) through the University of Sussex.
International Partnerships Manager/ Head Northumbria International Summer School
Alejandra became involved in International education in 2004 in Chile, and founded a Spanish language school in 2008 for international students to gain academic credit for their short programmes in Chile. She has since been involved in international student mobility and recruitment in several countries in Latin America, North America and Europe. Alejandra currently manages international mobility for students and staff university-wide and is also Head of Northumbria International Summer School. As part of her Master's degree in International development, her main area of research is the internationalisation of hgher education in Latin America. She is also interested in developing research and practice in support and duty of care for outgoing mobile students.
