Learn about current regulatory, policy, and practice issues that affect the advising of students in F and M immigration status from the perspective of SEVP representatives and NAFSA leaders. Tips, tools, and resources will be included. SEVP officials have been invited.

Machelle Allman

Terra Dotta

Machelle has devoted her entire professional career of over 20 years to international education. After 5 years in international admissions, she switched focus to international student advising and has served students in private colleges, community colleges, and a large research institution. She has served in leadership positions at the state and regional levels, and currently serves at the national level as Region 1's Past Chair. She presents and trains frequently on regulatory and other advising topics, including F1 regulations, employment issues, and best practices in international student advising. She is Assistant Director of International Student Services at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Elizabeth A. James

Director, International Student and Scholar Services
North Carolina State University

Ms. James has twenty years of experience in international education and immigration law. She has a Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University-Bloomington and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been active in NAFSA's Trainer Corps and on the International Student and Scholar Regulatory Practice Exchange Visitor subcommittee, and has presented at the state, regional, and national levels.
