Jim Paul

Director, Boston Office
U.S. Department of Commerce

Jim Paul is Director of the Boston Office at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In this capacity, he coordinates this agency's activities in assisting Massachusetts exporters with increasing their business opportunities overseas and Massachusetts educational institutions with their international student recruitment activities. As former Education Team Leader for this agency, he organized worldwide assistance to educational institutions and intensive English programs with promotion of their programs to international students and partners. He has more than 20 years of international trade experience through his work in the private and public sectors. Mr. Paul graduated cum laude with a BA in Political Economy of Industrial Societies from the University of California, Berkeley. He later received a Master of Business Administration in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Mr. Paul also earned an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He has two years of experience in Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Joshua D. Clark

Director of External Relations
Hawaii Preparatory Academy

Joshua Clark is the Director of External Relations at Hawai'i Preparatory Academy, a coeducational boarding and day high school located on the Island of Hawai'i. He has worked at boarding schools for the past 17 years, including schools in Arizona, Maine, and now Hawai'i. He has extensive experience with international recruiting and is the PDSO for HPA. He has served on the National Association of Independent Schools Global Advisory Board for the 2016-2017 academic year, and was inducted into the NAFSA Secondary School Trainer Corps at the NAFSA 2017 Annual Conference in Los Angeles.

Michael K. Shaver

The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS)

Michael Shaver is based in Kathmandu, Nepal and is the Director of International Market Growth for The Association of Boarding Schools. Michael has over 13 years of experience in Student Affairs, Admissions, and University Teaching. As Director of International Market Growth, Michael is responsible for all international efforts to promote awareness and understanding of boarding schools and to expand the applicant pool for member institutions. Prior to joining TABS, Michael served as a Regional Educational Advising Coordinators (REAC) for EducationUSA. In his role as a REAC, Michael supported EducationUSA Advising Centers across Southeast Asia and collaborated with U.S. Higher Education Institutions to develop recruitment strategies throughout the region. Prior to his appointment as a REAC, Michael served in a number of internationally-focused education and admission roles, which has allowed him to recruit students throughout the world, including overseeing recruitment efforts for NYU Abu Dhabi and the Schwarzman Scholars programs in East Asia and the Pacific at IIE in Bangkok; Director of the University of South Pacific’s first international office; and as Assistant Director of Admission for Berklee College of Music in Boston. In addition to his background in international admissions, Michael has taught university level courses at Eastern Illinois University, Rochester Institute of Technology, and was a guest lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Worms, Germany.

John Williamson has lead Enrollment offices at four universities as well as at a Boarding & Day School. He left his institutional recruitment career and created the Boarding School division of Linden, which quickly grew into one of the largest Boarding School recruitment companies on the planet. With that success, the then bought & merged the University side of Linden to create a full fleet of offices dedicated to the enrollment needs of both Universities and Boarding Schools. He continues to create progressive recruitment initiatives to ensure stable, and mission-appropriate enrollments at schools which travel with Linden.
