Designing an Effective International Student Financial Aid Strategy

Financial aid is an important means of support for low-income international students, but it is also a way to attract a unique and motivated cohort. This session uses case studies and financial aid data that allows admissions professionals to consider different financial aid models, the best approaches for their institutions, and advocacy strategies.

Katryna Snow

Assistant Director of Higher Education Services

Katryna Snow serves as Assistant Director of Higher Education Services at the Council of International Schools (CIS). Prior to her work at CIS, Katryna worked at the University of Vermont and Colgate University, where she has a decade of international admissions experience. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Hamilton College and a Master’s in Education from Worcester State University, and taught middle school science before moving into admissions. Katryna has served on the regional service committee for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for the Council of International Schools, and has led recruiting tours for groups of universities in Eurasia, the Middle East, and Africa. A frequent contributor to international education conferences, Katryna has presented on topics ranging from regional recruitment strategies to working with EducationUSA at conferences in the United States, Monaco, Scotland, Spain and Portugal. Katryna has traveled to eighty countries and has enjoyed meeting prospective students on five continents.

I have been involved in International Education in many aspects for fourteen years. Through my time I have worked with Study Abroad, scholarship, program development, immigration, recruiting and admissions. My involvement with NAFSA has been at the state level as a workshop and session presenter , also serving as Chair, regional level as a presenter and state representative, and nationally as a presenter. I recognize the importance of a campus incorporating international aspects to create a more diverse learning experience for the campus community. I currently am a doctoral student in Higher Education Leadership through Central Michigan University.

Clay T. Hensley

Senior Director, International Strategy & Outreach
College Board

In his role as senior director, international higher education outreach, at the College Board, CLAY HENSLEY supports the aspirations and goals of educators internationally, especially within the NAFSA community. Clay presents frequently on issues impacting international education, including international student mobility trends. Clay was awarded the annual Distinguished Service Award by the Overseas Association for College Admissions Counseling (OACAC) in 2013. Hensley is a key member of the College Board’s International team, which is responsible for managing the effective administration and use of College Board programs, including the SAT and the Advanced Placement Program (AP), in more than 180 countries around the globe. He also helps to advance the efforts of the College Board’s higher education membership to recruit prospective undergraduate students internationally. Prior to joining the College Board, he taught English literature and studio art at Serramonte del Rey High School in Daly City, California. He also taught at the university level. He holds a BA in English literature from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and an MFA in painting from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Molly Witt

Associate Director of International Admissions
University of Vermont

Molly has over ten years of professional experience within the field of international education, currently serving as the Associate Director of International Admissions at the University of Vermont. Prior to her appointment at the University of Vermont, Molly served as an adviser in the Office of International Education at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh serving both Study Abroad and International Student Services. After completing a Master of Science in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Global Leadership, she moved to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to fill a brand new position as the International and Nonresident Student Recruiter. At the University of Vermont, Molly oversees all undergraduate international student recruitment and admissions efforts.
