Developing strategic partnerships works to support internationalization and enhance institutional effectiveness and reputations. U.S. and Hong Kong panelists discuss global trends and the roles of technology, revenue, limited resources, institutional goals, and outcomes assessment in the formulation and sustainability of global partnerships.

Ian Wright

Director of Partnerships
World Education Services

Ian Wright is the Director of Partnerships at World Education Services (WES), a non-profit international education organization founded in 1974. Ian is an experienced administrator who served as Director of International Admissions at LIU Post for over 3 years, where he was also a DSO, and previously as Director of the Academic Counseling Center. Ian earned a master’s degree in education from Hunter College and a bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University. Ian joined WES in 2013 and currently works with education institutions and organizations to meet their internationalization priorities through research and collaboration.

Kike Ehigiator

Director, Int'l Partnerships & Agreements
Georgia State University-International Initiatives

Ms. Kike Ehigiator manages the university's international partnerships portfolio including agreements, strategic partnerships, grants administration, and partnership outcomes. Kike also manages technology implementation to support global engagement. This includes multiple databases that capture international program data inlcuding MoveOn, an International Relations Management software and Global Gateway - a data visualization project of Georgia State's global engagement activities. Prior to her employment at Georgia State, Kike served as the Institute Liaison and Team Lead for both the Institute of Gender and Health, and the Rural and Northern Health Strategic Programs at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Ottawa, Canada. Kike holds Bachelors’ degrees from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria and Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, Canada, and a Master’s degree in International Development Studies from St. Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada.

Peter Li

Director, International Office
Hong Kong Baptist University International

Peter Li was born and raised in Hong Kong. He went to the US in 1974 and competed his undergraduate degree at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky and his Master's degree at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in 1981. He began his work as a Case Manager at the Migration and Refugee Services at Catholic Charities of Louisville before entering the field of international education in 1983. He started to work as an International Student Coordinator at the University of Louisville before moving to West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1988 to take up the position as the Assistant Dean for International Students & Scholars. Prior to his return to Hong Kong to assume his current position as the Director of International Office in 2006, he was the Associate Dean of International Students and Scholars at WVU. He has been a member of NAFSA since 1983 and was a regional chair of Region VIII in 1995 and served as a member of NAFSA's Diversity Committee for three years.

Paulo Zagalo-Melo

Associate Provost for Global Education
University of Montana-Missoula

Paulo Zagalo-Melo is Associate Provost for Global Education, Director of Global Engagement, and Associate Professor of International Education at the University of Montana, where he also serves on the International Committee. His 20 years of professional experience in higher education working with governmental and nongovernmental international organizations include having served as Director of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Portuguese-American Foundation, as Executive Director of the Fulbright Program in Portugal, and as a member of the Executive Committee of Fulbright Directors from Europe. Zagalo-Melo received his MPA from Harvard University and his PhD in political science from the Catholic University of Portugal.
