Join the 2016 NAFSA Global Dialogue Fellows from The Gambia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe for a panel on international higher education in sub-Saharan Africa. Presenters offer their insights into internationalization initiatives at their institutions and opportunities for partnerships with other institutions in Africa and around the world.

Shannon Marquez

Associate Vice Provost
Drexel University

Dr. Shannon Márquez is the Vice Provost for International Development at Drexel University. As Vice Provost, she oversees Drexel's Dornsife Global Development Scholars Program, which leverages an exciting capacity-building partnership between Drexel and World Vision International to provide training in WASH, globalhealth, and international development and funding for faculty/student research and student field experiencesin 24 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. Márquez is an accomplished educator, researcher, administrator and “public health engineer,” who has garnered local, national and international recognition for research and practice in the field of global environmental health. Her international areas of focus include safe water systems, health systems strengthening and health governance, and agricultural health. Dr. Márquez also leads research on sustainable solutions to address the environmental burden of disease and health disparities in developing countries of Africa. She holds a PhD inenvironmental sciences and engineering from The UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, and has held distinguished international faculty appointments in global health at The University of the The Gambia; the Université Gaston-Berger de Saint-Louis in Senegal; andas a Erasmus Mundus Scholar at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Santé Publique (or EHESP, The French School of Public Health), and the University of Sheffield (UK) School of Health and Health Related Research(ScHARR). She teaches graduate courses in WASH, global health ethics, public health in developing countries and maternal and child health, and helps support a number of global health research and training activities in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa on behalf of Drexel.

Dr. Márquez serves on numerous boards and committees including, the Board of Directors of the Consortium of Universities in Global Health (CUGH), the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia; the Global Water Alliance; and the African Family Health Organization.

Dr. Aurelia Ngirwa Kamuzora is curre[y the program coordinator of Vlaamse Interuniversitytaire Road –University Development Cooperation at Mzumbe University (MU-VRIL-UOS/GRE@T), available at: http://iuc.vliruos.be from May 2012 to date. She is an Africa China and Europe (ACE) Program Coordinator addressing economic development of the three continents involving student exchange. She is also Trustee of Green for Education and Poverty Alleviation Project addressing natural resource governance in Kagera Region, Tanzania. Prof Aurelia is an International Institute of Education Fellow (USA) : www.iie.state.co.usa since 2015 and current NAFSA Global Dialogue Fellow addressing internationalization of high education institution to participate in outreach community economic development of African continent from 2016 up to 2017 (www.nafsa.org). She has published widely on issues pertaining to institutional economic analysis and gender related issues.
