Iraqi Young Leaders Program: Alumni Tracking and Impact Analysis

Panelists will present research on the impact of the Iraqi Young Leaders Program on Iraqi students, the U.S. host community, and program sponsors. Explore factors that contribute to the effectiveness of short-term training programs designed to transform worldviews through leadership, civic involvement, and community building.

Amy Fisher Bruey

Senior Program Specialist
World Learning for International Development

Amy Fisher Bruey has worked in the field of international education for over a decade. She is currently the Senior Program Specialist and Program Manager of the undergraduate portfolio at World Learning. She is charge of partner relations and online course management. She previously worked at the U.S. Department of State on Western Hemisphere Fulbright Programs. Her career began in Chile as an English teacher and continue on to The George Washington University (GW) as an international student advisor. She has a Master of Arts degree in International Education from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts from John Carroll University.

Heidi Gregori-Gahan

Associate Provost, International Programs and Services
University of Southern Indiana

Heidi Gregori-Gahan has been active in the field of international education for over 35 years. She currently serves as Associate Provost for International Programs at the University of Southern Indiana, a comprehensive unit responsible for providing services to international students and scholars; international recruitment; development and implementation of study abroad programs ; Intensive English; and campus-wide programming. Gregori-Gahan is a past presenter at regional, national, and international NAFSA conferences and other professional meetings, and has held several regional and national positions with the association. She received numerous grants to fund international projects that enhanced both the campus and the community. Most recently, USI was one of two U.S. institutions selected to serve as host institution for degree-seeking students from underserved communities who are supported by SENACYT Panama. Gregori-Gahan holds a BA in German from Kalamazoo College and an MA in higher education from Loyola University.

Ronald S. Rochon

Provost
University of Southern Indiana International Office

Ronald S. Rochon currently serves as provost at the University of Southern Indiana, a position held since 2010.

He previously served as associate vice president for teacher education and dean of the School of Education at Buffalo State College, and director and co-founder of the Research Center for Cultural Diversity and Community Renewal at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse (UW-L). He also directed the Master of
Education Professional Development Program and was interim director of the School of Education and associate dean of the College of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Teacher Education at UW-L.

He earned his undergraduate degree at Tuskegee University and graduate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). His doctoral work was in educational policy studies. His teaching career includes work at UIUC, Texas A&M University, Washington State University, and UW-L.

Rochon is former chair of the Board of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher
Education.

Kevin Valadares

Associate Professor and Chair
University of Southern Indiana International Programs and Services

Kevin Valadares is a Associate Professor and Chair of Health Administration at the University of Southern Indiana. He has been involved in International Programs as a Study Abroad faculty leader and has taught oversees for a semester. In general, he tends provide hours of countless joy and distractions to the International Program staff and fully believes that internationalizing the curriculum improves higher education.
