Examine and review employment-based permanent residency issues, forms and processes, university policies, and case studies, including Department of Labor (DOL) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) procedures, advising challenges, and more. Designed for experienced international student and scholar advisers and program administrators.

Kristen Hagen

Associate Director
Florida State University

Kristen Hagen serves as Associate Director of Florida State University's Center for Global Engagement, where she manages the international student and scholar immigration services section. She began her work in international education in Califoria, working at Golden Gate University, The Asia Foundation, and at UC-Berkeley. She then lived in Brazil for a year and a half before moving to Tallahassee where she has now worked at FSU for 25 years. Kristen is a member of NAFSA's Trainer Corps and has presented at workshops and in sessions at local, state, and national NAFSA conferences. She is a past chair of the Florida Association of International Educators (FAIE), participated in the Fulbright IEA program to Korea, and served as the Region VII scholar regbud.

Arda Beskardes

Supervising Attorney

M. Arda Beskardes is an attorney based in New York City. He is a member of AILA, NAFSA and the ABA. IN addition to his private practice, Arda also serves as the Supervising Attorney of The City University of New York (CUNY) system, overseeing CUNY’s F & J related immigration policies, procedures, concerns, & other issues. Before heading on to a solo practice, Beskardes was an attorney with Siskind Susser, PC, one of the most prestigious immigration firms in the country. Prior to Siskind Susser, Arda was the in-house immigration specialist of The University of Memphis. He frequently conducts professional development workshops, lectures, and writes on immigration issues for NAFSA and other educational associations. Beskardes is a graduate of The University of Memphis's Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law (JD, 1998), and the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences (BA, 1995), where he studied political science with a concentration in labor economics and industrial relations.
