Michele Stelljes is the J-1 Responsible Officer and Senior HR Immigration Specialist for The Houston Methodist Hospital and Research Institute. She has previously served NAFSA in various regional and national leadership roles. Dedicated to offering colleagues training in the field, Stelljes was a member of the Filing Academic H-1B Petitions CEP Curriculum team, and has designed and led workshops that focus on physician and scholar immigration. She is Chair Emeritus of the NAFSA Healthcare Organizations Member Interest Group (HIIG), Regional Regulatory Representative, Development, and Employment-Based Subcommittee. She is a Trainer Corps member. She is an advocate for physician and scholar immigration. Stelljes holds a master’s degree in educational ministries from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.

Ugo Buzzi is a Faculty & Staff Immigration Adviser at the University of Michigan International Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He advises on H-1B, TN, E-3, Permanent Residency and general employment-based immigration issues. Prior to joining the International Center, he served in the Criminal Appeals Division and Narcotics Prosecutions Bureau of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago, Illinois, and has also practiced law in the area of commercial litigation. Ugo attended graduate school at the University of Michigan prior to attending law school at Michigan State University College of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, and a member of NAFSA and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
Director, International Employment & Scholar Services

Charmagne Herlien is the Director, International Employment & Scholar Services at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Prior to this position, she served as the Associate Director, International Scholar Services, at the California Institute of Technology for three years. In regards to NAFSA involvement, Charmagne most recently served as the NAFSA Regulatory Ombudsperson for Scholars in Region XII from 2013 to 2015. Prior to this role, she was a member of the NAFSA International Student and Scholar Regulatory Practice, Exchange Visitor Program Committee (ISS-RP EVP.) Through this subcommittee she headed a Task Force on the J-1 24-Month Bar issue in 2013. She has been involved in immigration advising, primarily for scholars, at large research institutions, for the past 15 years. Prior to advising scholars, Charmagne worked in international admissions, programming for international community college students, and teaching ESL in the U.S. and Japan. She earned her MEd in Instructional Leadership, Educational Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
