As student populations abroad diversify, advisers must take preventative measures to ensure students’ well-being. This ranges from managing mental health needs to supporting students with disabilities. Prepare for and respond to health and safety situations while empowering students to take charge of their own health and safety abroad.

Dr. Holly Carter is the Director of Harlaxton College Programs and Director of International Programs for the University of Evansville and Harlaxton College. Holly has many years of experience developing and expanding international programs: as a US-based director, on-site program director, faculty member, and student abroad. Holly has her Ph.D. in Sociology/Health Services Research with a focus on International Health Care Delivery Systems. Holly also works as a Team Leader for Habitat for Humanity. She leads teams to build homes all over the world. She just completed her 30th international build.

Kalpen Trivedi

Associate Provost for International Programs
University of Massachusetts Amherst

Kalpen Trivedi is Associate Provost for International Programs at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Responsible for strategic and operational oversight of the International Programs Office, he also provides leadership for campus internationalization. Trivedi has sixteen years of experience in international education with special interests in program design, travel health and safety, and global partnerships. A regular contributor and presenter in various international education forums, Trivedi is recent Vice-Chair and Steering Committee member of OSAC’s Academia Working Group, a member of NAFSA’s International Education Leadership Knowledge Community and the National Trainer Corps, and member of the Guild of the College of Global Studies (Arcadia University).

Brenda S. Miller

Associate Director
University of Southern California Global Programs and Partnerships

Brenda S. Miller (BA, English and Philosophy, Coe College; MPW, University of Southern California) is Associate Director in the Marshall School of Business Office of Global Programs and Partnerships at the University of Southern California. She is tasked with various required and elective graduate international experiential learning programs that send nearly 700 students each year to ten different countries primarily in Asia and Latin America. In this role, she manages student services and works with other members of her team on risk assessment, logistics, academic support, emergency protocol, and all the other issues inherent to short-term programs.
