Haedy Liu grew up in New York City in a bilingual home where cultural diversity was celebrated and cultivated. She spent fifteen years in Yunnan, China studying Chinese and teaching English at an international school and at several universities, including a medical school. After moving back to the U.S. in 2010, Haedy served as chair of the ESOL Department at Central TX College before becoming the ESOL Director at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She has written about the role of Chinese sayings and transnational education for Chinese scholars studying abroad, and more recently presented talks on how various cultural constructs can impact teaching and learning among students from China and India in higher education.
