Gabriele Knieps is Head of Section ‘Scholarship Programs North America, RISE’ in the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Bonn Germany. In her function she is responsible for awarding scholarships to outstanding North American and German students, (post)graduates, young academics and researchers to complete study or research stays at the best institutions in the other country.

She has more than 25 years of professional experience in the field of managing academic exchange in the DAAD. Before assuming responsibility for DAAD’s North America Section she worked as program coordinator for the IAESTE National Committee for the exchange of student trainees, providing practical training placements for students of natural and technical sciences as well as several years for the National Agency for the EU ERASMUS program in Bonn and Brussels.
