Learn how St. Lawrence University set up its China Internship program and how the program enriches students’ learning and knowledge of China.

Dr. Helen Huang is the Director of Asia Programs and she advises for the China, Japan, Thailand, India, Australia and New Zealand programs. She is originally from China, and graduated from the Harvard Divinity School with a Masters of Theological Studies in 2012 with a concentration in Religion, Ethics and Politics, and she earned her Ph.D. in education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2016. She is also the advisor for the Chinese Cultural Club, SLU Chinese Student Union, SLU Project Pengyou Chapter, and the A.S.I.A. club. Her research focuses on student leadership development, teacher education and social justice in education.
Dr. Huang has established the SLU China Internship program, some flagship internships includes Liberal Arts for Rural China and China Finance Internships. She is also active involved in inviting speakers to campus from Asia, such as the Chinese American comedian Joe Wong, and the founder of the “Youwei Rural Library”. She is currently working with Robin Rhodes-Crowell, the visiting instructor of English for Academic Purposes to bring teacher education training programs to the teachers in rural areas of China.
