Boston Library Consortium and the East Academic Scholars’ Trust
Susan Stearns is Executive Director of the Boston Library Consortium, which includes 18 academic and research libraires in New England. She is also the Project Director for the Eastern Academic Scholars' Trust (EAST) program, a shared print intiative that currently includes 59 libraries from Maine to Florida. EAST's mission is to protect the print scholarly record by working with its members to retain agreed upon print monographs and serials/journals titles. Following a large-scale collection analysis in 2015/16 with the original 40 EAST Retention Partners, over 6 million monograph holdings were committed to be retained for a minimum of 15 years by the libraries and made available through standard inter-library loan to their EAST partners. With a Cohort 2 of libraries in place as of spring of 2017, EAST in now undertaking a further monograph collection analysis and anticipates making a sigificant number of additional retention commitments by early 2018. EAST is also in the early stages of developing a retention program for print serials and journals for its members.
Susan's early career included working with a number of library automation vendors and electronic publishers in a variety of marketing, product management and professional services roles. She has a BA from Mount Holyoke College and a MLS from Simmons College.
