Hear from a team tasked with cataloging 150,000 public records for the State of Massachusetts - a librarian, a programmer, a GIS specialist and a small army of data scientists have been building the Mass Docs Repo since November. Using an open source data portal, working with limitations and extending the tools, balancing the rich expressiveness of the metadata with user-friendliness of the data entry tools, ensuring a usable search experience, and enabling thousands of machine-readable documents to be released on the web.
