Thanks to continued generous funding by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, the American Dream Literacy Initiative Grant has helped more than 185 public libraries across the U.S. serve adult ELLs by initiating or expanding collections and services.
The American Dream Initiative will discuss how thousands of Adult English Language Learners are becoming productive and innovative citizens. Personal and Institutional goals are being in met in dynamic ways. Public libraries continue to conduct classes covering basic English literacy, GED completion and job training. Professional Development opportunities by way of regional and institutional conferences assists libraries in developing and expanding recruitment efforts for volunteers, establishing partnerships, topics also covers and focuses on increasing access, using the library and collections, reaching challenging populations, language acquisition skills, completing GED programs while improving employment status, and sustaining programs after funding ends.
