Keys to Compliant and Caring End of Life Care and Decision Making - including the new Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment (POST) documents

End of life care is receiving more and more attention in facilities and in the news. Session will cover dynamics of end of life care in skilled nursing and assisted living. Session will discuss CMS regulatory pronouncements on end of life care and look at OIG issues regarding end of life care. Session will offer practices and procedures that skilled nursing and assisted living facilities can implement, alone or with hospices to enhance end of life experiences for residents. Session will also review the new Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment (POST) documents adopted in more and more states.

Sean represents the needs of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in all areas of healthcare accounts receivable and reimbursement recovery. He helps clients streamline internal processes and procedures for corporate accounts receivable policies and to provide in-service presentations to teach facility staff strategies for reducing outstanding private and Medicaid receivables. Sean counsels clients on admission agreement language relevant to collection matters and provides advice on discharge planning issues. He also advises clients on resident’s guardianship issues and estate claims.

Sean is a member of the Elder Law section of the Indiana State Bar Association and has been a speaker at LeadingAge Indiana’s conferences (formerly Indiana Association of Homes & Services for the Aging) as well as at continuing legal education seminars focusing on nursing home issues. He has also been a speaker at programs for Indiana Association for Home & Hospice Care, Indiana Academy of Family Physicians, American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management - Indiana, Indiana Society for Healthcare Risk Management, and the National Business Institute.

Sean is a Board Certified Indiana Trust and Estate Lawyer by the Trust and Estate Specialty Board. (Certified by the Estate Planning and Administration Specialty Certification Board of the Indiana State Bar Association's Probate, Trust and Real Property Section. - 2007 to current)
