Lina is currently the Director of Nursing Administration for Hughes Health and Rehabilitation, Inc. in West Hartford, Connecticut. She is a BSN graduate of Filamer Christian University in the Philippines and holds a Master's degree in Management from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, The Lally School of Business Management in Hartford, Connecticut.
As a nurse, Lina has several years of experience working in both acute care and long term- care and has been in the latter field for twenty years. She is a Certified Director of Nursing in Long-Term Care as well as Fellow in the Academy of Certified Directors of Nursing Administration. She is also a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and a Certified trainer for the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP). In addition, Lina is a panelist with the State of Connecticut DPH, IIDR Process and an active member of Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilties, American College of Health Care Administrators, National Survey and Regulatory Committee, and National Quality Award Board of Senior Examiners.
Throughout her career, Lina has been passionate about making a difference in the lives of those she and her staff care for. In 2014, she was recognized as one of the Connecticut Nightingale Award Winners for Excellence in Nursing, and in 2015, Lina received the Northeast Region Nurse Administrator Award and the prestigious NADONA National Nurse Administrator of the Year Award. Moreover, in 2016, she led her team at Hughes to win the ACHA/NCAL Gold Quality Award. This year in October 4, 2017, Lina will receive the Public Service Award from the Connecticut Nurses Association.
Outside of her work, Lina provides leadership development training to those in the health profession the latest of which was with the Department of Veterans Affairs in West Haven, Connecticut.

Ms. Patel is a passionate advocate for quality. At AHCA, she works diligently to support the Quality Awards program working with both providers and examiners to ensure a valuable and equitable experience. She is behind some of AHCA's Quality Initiative resources and activities and is responsible for high level documents that guide the quality department including many of the NQF endorsed measures and the Annual Quality Report. She leads the Workforce Committee and actively pursues issues that directly impact the workforce. Most recently, she has driven the conversation related to Mandatory Electronic Payroll Collection. She presents on many workforce issues as well as topics related to the Quality Awards.

Maryruth’s healthcare passion has led her to be the Executive Director at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation – Mountain Valley in her hometown of Kellogg, Idaho since 2001. Mountain Valley, a 68-bed Skilled Nursing Facility, is the 2016 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
She attributes using the Baldrige Excellence Framework for shifting her professional approach and creating a culture of performance excellence. Mountain Valley’s quality journey began when applying for the American Health Care Association’s three-tiered Quality Awards. The facility was awarded the Bronze Award in 2005, the Silver Award in 2007, and the Gold Award in 2011. Maryruth learned to sustain these outcomes and guides her workforce to continuously improve, encourages innovation, and is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for patients and residents.
Inspired by the AHCA Quality Award process, she became a Senior Examiner in 2012 and served as a Master Examiner in 2013, 2014, and 2015, participating in one site visit. Her continuous improvement is evidenced by being awarded Kindred’s 2015 Northwest District Executive Director of the Year and in 2016 the facility received a zero deficiency state survey.
Maryruth holds her Master of Business Administration in Health Care Administration from Jones International University and her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Lewis-Clark State College.

Maureen Carland, MA, RN-BS, NHA, currently serves as the Administrator at Maine Veterans’ Homes in Scarborough (MVH-S). Maureen has 30 years of experience in the health care setting. She embodies the person-centered culture change philosophy, attaining the first CARF Person-Centered Long Term Care accredited community in the state of Maine. She led MVH-S to the AHCA Gold Quality Award in 2016. Maureen was a founding member of the Maine Local Area Network of Excellence (LANE), the state based stakeholder group for the Advancing Excellence Campaign. Maureen has bachelors in nursing and a Masters in Leadership Studies.
