In this a fun and interactive session, participants will learn about the Baldrige framework and understand how the criteria can help your organization achieve its goals and deliver value. Research shows that the program criteria, based on the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, adds value for organizations that use them- Silver and Gold recipients perform better than others on a number of quality, survey and business outcomes. The criteria also align with CMS’ new Requirements of Participation, include the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) framework. There has never been a better time to get involved in this program! This session is geared toward center leadership, corporate representatives and state affiliates. Participants will leave this session equipped with the necessary information to start their Quality Award journey!

Learning Objectives:

Linda Estes

Linda Estes RN,BS,NHA, is a Registered Nurse and Nursing Home Administrator with more than 40 years of experience in long term care. She is currently the Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs for the Tennessee Health Care Association and has been a Senior Quality Examiner for the AHCA Quality Awards for nine years. She teaches multiple seminars in Tennessee and other states on quality and clinical topics. Linda began her nursing career as an LPN working on the floor of a nursing home and from there continued to go to school and become a registered nurse. She worked as a Director of Nursing for years and then became an administrator, a regional administrator and a consultant. During this time, she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Managment to better understand the business side of long term care. In addition to work, Linda is a wife, a mother, a grandmother and an amateur fisherman.

Melisha S. Darnell

Director of Performance Improvement
American Health Care

Melisha Darnell RN, MBA, LNHA, is the Vice President of Quality Improvement for American HealthCare. She brings over twenty-five years of experience to the Long Term Care Industry. Melisha began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and shortly thereafter obtained her Registered Nurse License. She has worked in the acute care hospital setting, physician’s office practice, and home health, but found her passion in Long Term Care. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Nursing Home Administrator License. Melisha has worked in several capacities of Long Term Care including the charge nurse role, supervisor, MDS Coordinator, Director of Nursing Services, Administrator, Director of Clinical Reimbursement and as a Regional Nurse Consultant. She is a Nursing Home Administrator Preceptor and a Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor. She is a member of the Virginia Health Care Association, American Health Care Association, served as Western District Chair of the VHCA, and a member of the Mountain Empire Community College Nursing Program Board.
