Nicole P. Ehrhart, VMD, DACVS-SA

Professor, Surgical Oncology
Colorado State University

Dr. Ehrhart is a Full Professor in surgical oncology at the Flint Animal Cancer Center and holds the Ross M Wilkins MD Limb Preservation Foundation University Chair in Musculoskeletal Biology and Oncology at CSU. She is the first woman to ever be granted a University Endowed Chair position at Colorado State University. She is the Director of the Laboratory of Comparative Musculoskeletal Oncology and Traumatology and has been actively involved in limb preservation research, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering and sarcoma research for the last eighteen years. She has been an invited speaker at various venues for in translational research, both nationally and internationally. She holds joint faculty positions in the School of Biomedical Engineering, the Cell and Molecular Biology program, the Gates Regenerative Medicine Center at the University of Colorado and The University of Colorado Cancer Center.  In addition to her research, she has held several prestigious positions in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Scientific Program Chair, Residents Forum Chair, and Examination Committee), Veterinary Society for Surgical Oncology (President), Veterinary Orthopedic Society (President) and Chair of the 2014 World Veterinary Orthopaedic Congress Organizing Committee. She has authored numerous publications on limb preservation following trauma or tumor resection and is actively engaged in translational bone and muscle regeneration research benefiting both human and canine patients. She is the mother of two daughters, serves as a counselor at Sky High Hope Camp, a summer camp for children and teens with cancer, loves to ski snowshoe, hike, backpack and drink good wine with friends.

Laura E. Selmic, BVetMed (Hons), MPH, DACVS-SA, ACVS Founding Fellow, Surgical Oncology

Dr. Selmic graduated with a Bachelor’s in Veterinary Medicine from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 2004. She completed a residency in small animal surgery at Texas A & M University in 2010. In 2011, she completed a clinical fellowship in oncologic surgery at the Flint Animal Cancer Center, Colorado State University. In 2012, she was recognized as a board certified specialist of small animal surgery and a founding fellow of surgical oncology. She completed a Master of Public Health degree with focus in Applied Biostatistics in 2013. She is currently anassistant professor of soft tissue and oncologic surgery at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Selmic’s research interests include imaging to enhance surgical planning and assessment of surgical margins, cancer epidemiology, clinical trial and study design.
