Dr. Michelle Giuffrida is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship at North Carolina State University, surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Florida. She has a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the Perelman School of Medicine and previously held a lectureship in surgical oncology and clinical trials at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Giuffrida is currently an Assistant Professor of Soft Tissue Surgery at the University of California, Davis. Her main research interest involves examining how clinical research is conducted and reported in the literature, and developing new tools to improve research methods and reporting, such as validated outcome measures and standardized reporting systems.
Elaine Holmes, DVM DACVS is currently employed at MedVet Chicago.
Dr. Holmes attended veterinary school at Michigan State University, completed her rotating internship at Texas A&M University, and completed her residency training at University of Pennsylvania. She is currently employed at MedVet Chicago and fills the role as the specialty leader in her department. Dr. Holmes has lectured on a variety of surgical topics both locally and internationally but has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery. Regarding the topic of this panel discussion, Dr. Holmes has past experience in instituting a surgical checklist system and ensuring it has been applied appropriately at 2 specialty referral hospitals.
Associate Professor, Small Animal Surgery

Dr. Ameet Singh is an Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is a graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island, Canada and then completed a rotating internship and surgical residency at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Canada. He has a particular clinical and research interest in minimally invasive surgery and surgical site infections.
