Professor and Eminent Scholar
University of Florida

Dan Lewis is Professor and the Jerry and Lola Collins Eminent Scholar in Canine Sports Medicine and Comparative Orthopaedics at the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine. Dan is received his DVM from the University of California, Davis in 1983. He completed an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Louisiana State University in 1984 and a Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Florida in 1987. Dr. Lewis spent a year as the Surgical Registrar at Sydney University before returning to Louisiana State University in 1988 as an Assistant Professor. In 1993, he returned to the University of Florida where he has ascended to his current rank as a Professor of Small Animal Surgery and Eminent Scholar. Dr. Lewis is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, a former President of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society, the recipient of the 2012 World Small Animal Veterinary Association-Hill’s Pet Mobility Award and was named a University of Florida Foundation Research Professor in 2016. He has authored or co-authored nearly 200 peer-reviewed publications. His special interests include musculoskeletal traumatology, fracture management and reconstructive orthopedic surgery with a focus on the utilization of circular and hybrid external skeletal fixation for fracture stabilization, deformity correction and limb salvage procedures.

Nina R. Kieves, DVM, DACVS-SA, DACVSMR, CCRT

Assistant Professor Orthopedic Surgery
The Ohio State University

Dr. Nina Kieves is an Assistant Professor of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery at The Ohio State University. She completed her veterinary degree at the University of Minnesota and is a board-certified Diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Kieves is actively involved in teaching orthopedic surgery nationally through AOVet and arthroscopy with Arthrex Vet Systems. Her research interests lie in sports medicine and rehabilitation and surgical treatment with minimally invasive techniques.
