Dr. R. Timothy (Tim) Bentley, BVSc, MRCVS, DACVIM (Neurology) is an Associate Professor of Neurology & Neurosurgery at Purdue University. He graduated from the University of Liverpool, UK in 2005. He then completed specialist training at the University of London and Tufts University, gaining his board-certification in veterinary neurology in 2009.
In 2009, Tim joined Purdue and began building a brain tumor research program. His position includes up to 50% clinical service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, with much of the rest of his time dedicated to discovery. His primary focus is glioma in client-owned (pet) dogs, in particular taking advantage of spontaneous brain tumors in dogs as a model for human brain cancer. He has recently completed a pilot prospective study of sugery and chemotherapy for canine glioma, and was invited to write a review of MRI diagnosis of canine brain tumors by the Veterinary Journal.
A secondary focus has been advancement of the application of MRI in the diagnosis of canine neurological disease, including MRI features of brain tumors and fungal infections. He serves as the surgeon in a porcine experimental model of obstructive hydrocephalus for the evaluation of a novel ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. Finally, he plays a supportive role in research involving acute spinal cord injury. More information about his research program is available at https://vet.purdue.edu/pcop/cgs.php
Tim is involved in various brain tumor research groups. He is co-leader of the Brain Cancer Discovery Group within the PU Center for Cancer Research, a member of the Brain Tumor Working Group at the IU School of Medicine, and a founding member of the Comparative Brain Tumor Consortium within the NIH. He is also a founding member of the Veterinary Neurosurgery Society.

Dr. Ronaldo C. da Costa, DMV, MSc, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM - Neurology
Dr. da Costa is a Professor and Service Head of Neurology and Neurosurgery at The Ohio State University. He is co-editor of the Practical Guide to Canine and Feline Neurology (Dewey and da Costa, 2016), and the consulting editor of the Neurology Section of the 8th edition of Ettinger and Feldman’s Internal Medicine book. He was also the Guest Editor of a Veterinary Clinics of North America on Spinal Diseases. He has an active research program on spinal diseases and has published over 90 scientific articles and book chapters. Dr. da Costa has received 28 awards for teaching, research and academic excellence, including the Pfizer-Norden Teaching Excellence Award and the Excellence in Graduate Education award, both at Ohio State.
