Dr. Holahan is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University (MSU) in 2006. Upon graduation, Dr. Holahan completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. In July 2010, she completed a residency in emergency and critical care medicine at the Michigan State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital and obtained board certification in emergency and critical care medicine. Following her residency, Dr. Holahan worked as a staff criticalist and clinical instructor at a teaching hospital in Connecticut for two years before returning home to Michigan and joining the Oakland Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Department in 2012. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Holahan is passionate about teaching and continuing education. She lectures at both the local and national level, teaching veterinary students at MSU and training visiting veterinary externs. She has also published on nutritional support, acute kidney injury, and immune mediated hemolytic anemia and is actively involved in research and textbook contributions. Her clinical interests include: immune-mediated diseases (immune-mediated hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia), acute kidney injury, dialysis, mechanical ventilation, sepsis, transfusion medicine and hospital acquired infections.

Assistant Professor, Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care
The Ohio State University

Dr. Page Yaxley, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, is currently an Assistant Professor in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Medicine at The Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Yaxley completed two internships and a residency in emergency and critical care medicine at Michigan State University, after graduation from Ohio State in 2003. During her residency, she became interested in medical ethics, quality and end of life care, in addition to her interest in critical care medicine. Following her residency, she stayed on at MSU, in emergency and critical care before founding Veterinary Hospice Care, the countries 2nd veterinary hospice affiliated with a teaching institution from 2011-2014. She is an active member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as VECCS and the Society for Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Yaxley is the founding member and co-president of the Veterinary Society for Hospice and Palliative Care, the first hospice organization exclusively for veterinarians. She returned to OSU in 2014, and currently teaches emergency and critical care as well as medical ethics and communications throughout the curriculum. She has been the recipient of many teaching awards, most notably the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award, and the John Lyman Jr. Award for Clinical Teaching.
