Although payments have progressed leaps and bounds recently, widespread adoption of payment technology is still a major challenge. Usage growth is slow for the older generation who tend to not trust emerging technologies, and millennials are not showing interest in established brands in the mobile payments space.

During a diverse panel that represents multiple areas of the payments ecosystem, the behaviors and expectations, value systems, and concerns of various generations are discussed as it related to digital payments and emerging payment technology.

Donna Embry

As of 2016, Donna Embry has 50 years experience in the payments industry and currently serves in a Strategic Development capacity for Payment Alliance International (PAI). Her prior executive positions include Executive Vice President, Product and Marketing for Vital Processing (TSYS Acquiring) and Senior Vice President, Electronic Banking for PNC Bank, as well as Chief Operations Officer for PNC’s former division, CFC Financial Services.

Embry authored the first ETA publication, "The Encyclopedia of Terminology for the Acquiring Industry", developed and taught the inaugural Introduction series of classes for ETA University. She is currently chair of the ETA Body of Knowledge working group, a member of the Federal Reserve’s Faster Payments Task Force, on the education committee for NAMA, the ATMIA EMV Migration Committee, the ETA Mobile Payments Council, and Board Member of the NEAA.

In addition, she was a founding member and served on the Board of Directors as Chairman for the former Kentucky-based Quest ATM network. Embry served as the President of the Midwest Acquirers Association (MWAA) in 2013 – 2014 and served on their Board of Directors from 2008 – 2012. She also serves on the Advisory Board for ISO & Agent.

In October, 2005, she was selected as The Green Sheet’s profiled industry leader and in July 2009 she was awarded the MWAA "Lifetime Achievement Award" for Payment Industry Professionals. In both 2013 and 2014, she was recognized as “One of the 20 Most Influential Women in Payments” by SourceMedia. Embry has a BA in foreign languages from the University of Louisville. In 2016 ETA named her as the "Distinguished Payments Professional"

Chelsie Cooper is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of AfirmPay, an ISO specializing in Card Not Present transactions.

Her journey in the payments industry started long before she was born. Her father, Mark Fravel, was Vice President of First Data in the early 80’s and continued in the Industry ever since. Growing up, she watched him transition from working in the “corporate world” to starting his own merchant ISO office focusing on Travel and Hospitality businesses.

After gaining experience working for her father’s company, Chelsie founded AfirmPay, an ISO with a focus on Card Not Present transactions, integrations, and payment technology. Chelsie has co-developed integrations for multiple large trade associations and software platforms. She also assists businesses in reducing chargebacks through technology integration and fraud prevention. AfirmPay has “carved a niche” by providing payment systems and consulting services to organizations who need specialized solutions and advice. They have been particularly successful in doing so for national franchises.

Chelsie will bring a unique perspective to the panel discussion, “Bridging the Generational Gap” and is proud to represent the millennial generation

Derek Webster is the Founder and CEO of CardFlight, based in New York City. CardFlight is a software-as-a-service company offering mobile payments technology and point of sale solutions to enterprises. They offer a Software Development Kit for developers to integrate payments acceptance in their existing app and SwipeSimple, a turnkey mobile solution for independent sales organizations and merchant service providers to offer to their merchants. Our technology platform is EMV chip card enabled with encrypted card readers, and a PCI Level 1 compliant payment gateway supporting all major U.S. processors. 15 of the top 60 merchant acquirers in the U.S trust CardFlight to make mobile point-of-sale easy for them and their merchants.

Prior to founding CardFlight, Derek was the Founder and CEO of LocalBonus, a credit card-linked loyalty network which rewarded consumers for purchases they make at local businesses. Earlier, Derek was an Engagement Manager at Oliver Wyman where he led senior-level strategy projects for some of the leading global payment networks and retail banks. He was also part of the team that launched E*TRADE's credit card business, where he personally led all product development and product marketing efforts for the group. Derek has an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BS magna cum laude from Georgetown University.
