Factories large and small are making use of more automation and robotics to streamline production. This has led to higher quality and cheaper products which benefit everyone, but now scheduling is more complex and detailed. Why? Automated equipment and robots have fixed production cycles and outputs. You can’t hire ‘temp’ robots like you can humans, so production scheduling in Dynamics NAV requires more detailed setup, such as Shop Calendars, Capacity, Efficiency, and Scrap Codes. There is also less systemic scrap but much higher non-systemic scrap, which makes production consumption harder to monitor. We will explore these components, and how MES captures real-time data from automated equipment to post consumption or output into Dynamics NAV.

Learning Objectives:

James Crowter

Managing Director
Technology Management

Since first starting to work with Navision back in 1995, James has been central to hundreds of companies implementing what is now Dynamics NAV. Having a background as a mid-market ERP consulting since leaving collage, he’s held multiple Dynamics NAV certifications as well as having certifications in both CRM and AX. This all round ability gives both valuable perspectives of not just knowing what any business needs it’s business system to do but what it will take to get it done.

While James is the Managing Director of one of the UK’s leading Dynamics partners he’s still leads from the front and daily consults to help clients get the most from their Dynamics investment. James has also been involved in many of Microsoft Dynamics NAV initiatives in recent years both on a technical and commercial perspective. This cumulated with James being appointed a MVP by Microsoft in 2015 in recognition of his contribution to the product and community. That continues with Dynamics 365 with James one of the first to get apps included in Appsource.
