Nitzan Goldberger

Nitzan Goldberger is ESA’s State Policy Director. In that capacity, Nitzan drives and designs storage policy through regulatory and legislative advocacy at the state level. Before joining ESA, Nitzan served as Borrego Solar’s Director of Policy & Business Development for California, where she advised and shaped Borrego Solar’s unique business strategies and product offerings in California. Prior to Borrego, Nitzan worked as a renewable energy policy expert for Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E)—one of the largest investor owned utilities in the US-- where she developed renewable energy policy strategy on RPS implementation, compliance, and legislation impacting PG&E's energy procurement. Nitzan’s experience in energy policy and strategy spans beyond renewable energy and the power sector. She spent nearly three years as an associate with the Eurasia Group where she advised corporate, financial, and government clients on US federal and state-level natural gas, oil and electric sector policies. Nitzan earned her MS in foreign service from Georgetown University and her BA in political science from the University of California at Berkeley.

Jacqueline DeRosa

Vice President
Customized Energy Solutions

Jacqueline is an expert in the energy regulatory arena and helps her clients with understanding the requirements for participation in the wholesale markets. Jacqueline actively contributed to the Massachusetts State of Charge report, which highlights the multiple values that energy storage can provide. She is a frequent speaker on cutting edge subjects impacting the storage industry at both domestic and international venues. She has served as an expert on evaluation panels for the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) smart grid and storage projects. Jacqueline is on the Board of Directors for the national Energy Storage Association (ESA).

Jacqueline has over 25 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to joining CES in 2007, she worked for the California ISO in the market design and account management areas. She has also worked on international energy sector restructuring matters for the USAID, and in project development for an independent power producer. She began her career at FERC. Jacquie has a B.A. from Rutgers University and an M.B.A. from George Washington University.

Kate McGinnis

AES Energy Storage

Kate McGinnis is the Western US Market Director for AES Energy Storage. She leads business development and sales in the region for the AES Advancion® platform. Prior to joining AES, she led development of stationary storage projects co-located with oil & gas infrastructure globally at Chevron. While there, she was also involved with renewable projects including geothermal, solar thermal and wind. Early in her career, Kate worked in energy efficiency and environmental policy. Kate is treasurer and a board member of the California Energy Storage Association and on the steering committee for Energy Access SF. She holds a BS in Environmental Science from George Washington University and an MBA from Cornell.

Sam Jaffe

Sam Jaffe is the founder and Managing Director of Cairn Energy Research Advisors. He has more than ten years of experience as an analyst, consultant and executive in the energy storage industry. Prior to Cairn ERA, he has worked at Navigant Research and IDC as an analyst and has also served as CEO at Panea Energy and Cygnus Energy Storage. He is an authority on battery usage on the grid, transportation and consumer electronics. He is an accomplished public speaker and a frequent keynote speaker at conferences and events throughout the world, including the Battery Show, Interbattery Korea, Stockage D’Energie and the Energy Storage Association annual meeting. He is frequently quoted in multiple press outlets, including the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and CNBC. He lives and works in Boulder, CO.

Rob Threlkeld

General Motors

Rob Threlkeld is global manager of renewable energy for General Motors, leading the company’s commitment to meet the electricity needs of its global operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2050. Threlkeld manages GM’s growing renewable energy portfolio and develops future projects to support GM’s sustainability strategy. Threlkeld is responsible for negotiating long-term power purchase agreements for GM facilities across the globe, including opportunities associated with battery storage, behind-the-meter applications and EV integration.

As part of GM’s sustainability team, Threlkeld shares best practices for renewable energy procurement with internal and external audiences, offering solutions for large and small businesses alike to benefit from the use of renewables.

Threlkeld is a board member of the American Wind Energy Association and involved in the Solar Energy Industries Association, two energy groups advancing the use of these renewable forms of energy. He also serves on the advisory board of Rocky Mountain Institute’s Business Renewables Center, and supports the World Wildlife Fund and World Resources Institute’s Renewable Energy Buyers’ Principles, organizations designed to help utilities and renewable energy providers meet rising demand. He is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers, the Engineering Society of Detroit, and the Solar Power International Education Council.

Threlkeld began his career at General Motors in 2000 as manager of the powerhouse and wastewater treatment plant operations at GM’s Lordstown, Ohio Assembly Complex. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University. He is a registered Certified Hazardous Material Manager, Certified Energy Manager and Business Energy Professional.

Lon Huber directs Strategen’s private sector consulting practice. In this capacity, he is involved in numerous public proceedings across the US, covering such topics as rate design modernization, community solar, energy storage policy, and DER market reform. Mr. Huber provides independent analysis, strategy, and policy solutions to some of the energy sector’s most pressing issues. He is frequently cited in trade press and speaks regularly at policy forums across the US. Prior to joining Strategen, Lon worked for the consumer advocate office in Arizona, in the private sector for technology firms and in academia at an energy focused research institute. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree and MBA from the University of Arizona Eller College of Management.
