Matt Cheney

Chief Executive Officer
CleanPath Ventures LLC

Matt Cheney is the CEO of CleanPath LLC and Managing Director of Catalyze Capital. He is the former CEO of Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, a global solar Independent Power Producer. In 2009 Mr. Cheney was the CEO of MMA Renewable Ventures (MMA RV), which focused on the development, ownership and operation of a multi-million dollar portfolio of large and distributed scale solar, wind, biomass and energy efficiency project investments. MMARV was the first independent syndicator of Solar Tax Equity funds in the US, and syndicated over 50 commercial and utility-scale renewable energy projects to five separate funds during Mr. Cheney’s tenure. Prior to MMA RV, Mr. Cheney was the CEO of NUON Renewable Ventures USA, LLC, while serving as Director of North American Business Development for NUON NV in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In that role, he developed and implemented NUON’s North American renewable energy investment strategy. Mr. Cheney managed U.S. mergers and acquisitions as a member of NUON’s global M&A team. Mr. Cheney took NUON Renewable Ventures private in 2004 under the name of Renewable Ventures LLC. Overall, Mr. Cheney has more than twenty-five years in the fields of civil engineering, energy, and environment, including experience with the U.S. Agency for International Development in South America, the National Rural Electric Co-op Association’s international programs, the U.S. Department of Energy (International Energy Policy, and the Utility PhotoVoltaic Group, now the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA). Mr. Cheney has a BS from the American University and a Master Degree from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, both in Washington D. C.

Jim Green

Manager, Global Energy Storage
CSA Group

Jim Green serves as the Global Business Manager for Energy Storage at CSA Group. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic development and execution of the battery and energy storage (ES) testing and certification business. Jim has overseen the design and construction of CSA Group battery and ES testing labs in the USA and China, where CSA Group provides a wide range of testing and accredited certification services across a spectrum of battery applications.

Mr. Green has given presentations on battery, energy storage, and electric vehicle certification and compliance at conferences around the globe, for organizations including Energy Storage Canada, NAATBatt, The India Energy Storage Alliance, and the Electric Drive Transportation Association, He has also participated in a US Consumer Product Safety Commission battery safety seminar in China.

Prior to CSA Group, Jim worked for 18 years at a major global producer of outdoor power equipment in various engineering management and compliance roles, including development of battery powered garden products. The first nine years of his career was spent at the USA’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Glenn Research Center, where he conducted research and development testing in chemical rocket propulsion and advanced materials, authored or co-authored 11 peer reviewed technical papers and presented at several national technical conferences.

Jim holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, a Master’s in Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from Baldwin-Wallace University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo. He also serves as a member of the Cleveland State University Mechanical Engineering Advisory Committee.

Pat Hayes

Business Development Manager, Energy Storage Systems

Pat Hayes is the Business Development Manager for ABB’s Energy Storage Systems business in the Americas. His experience includes more than 20 years of account management, project leadership and technical consulting for the power industry. On behalf of ABB, Pat has developed deep relationships with customers, suppliers and business partners to address utility and commercial applications for energy storage. Pat has authored and presented technical presentations at many industry conferences and other events such as IEEE, CIGRE, Minnesota Power Systems Conference, CEATI International, Solar Power International, Intersolar, AWEA and ABB Customer World, among others. He has also taught metering classes at the Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and he is an active member of IEEE. Pat has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Dakota.

Andrew Tanner

Vice President, Business Development

Andrew is spearheading the Business and Partnership Development for Geli. A professional engineer with over a decade of experience in developing and deploying clean technologies, Andrew’s previous roles have included the deployment of utility scale CSP technology at Ausra and design of CPV and high temperature solar collectors at Chromasun. He also brings project development and project finance experience to Geli.
Andrew graduated with Honors from the University of Sydney with degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Business. He completed his Global Executive MBA from the University in 2015. In 2014 Andrew was the recipient of the Global Australian of the Year Award in Clean Technology.
