Discovering Gifted Young Artists and Writers: Using Competitions as a Talent Search

Sunday, November 12
9:15 AM - 10:15 AM
Location: 212 AB

Gifted students have been recognized and celebrated for their achievements in art and writing competitions for decades. Many notable artists and writers are award winning alumni of national competitions. Aside from the accolades and occasional scholarships, what impact do these awards have on gifted young artists and writers? Can these competitions also serve as talent searches and expand programming opportunities? Preliminary findings will be shared about this type of talent discovery process and its effectiveness for serving gifted students.
