Strengthening the Self: How to Use Guided Relaxations with Gifted Adolescents

Friday, November 10
1:15 PM - 2:15 PM
Location: Exhibit Hall Roundtable 10

Adolescence is a turbulent time of development. Navigating through this time can be challenging for gifted adolescents whose minds have a hard time being “quiet.” Guided relaxations have been suggested as tools to help gifted teens effectively manage stress and feelings of intensity, and to strengthen their sense of Self. This presentation extends the use of guided relaxation with gifted teens to include body and breath awareness, shining a light on how emotions are experienced in the body. Participants learn how to incorporate body and breath awareness strategies to support the “whole” gifted adolescent in a one-on-one, classroom, or small group environment.
