Connecting with Parents Utilizing Digital Portfolios

Saturday, November 11
1:15 PM - 2:15 PM
Location: Exhibit Hall Roundtable 9

Connecting with parents is essential for success for any gifted program. Seesaw is a free online program, dedicated to easy use, that allows teachers to connect easily with parents and allows students to stay connected with others. The online program allows students to create a digital portfolio to showcase their learning. The program allows parents to view pictures and videos of student learning, read student writing, and access teacher newsletters instantly. Students are in charge of their sharing of their learning with the world. This easy-to-use tool will drastically change communication with parents and student motivation!

Stefanie L. McKoy

Gifted Instructor- Grades 3-4
Ozark School District

This will be the beginning of my 12th year of teaching and my second year with the Ozark School District.I will be in my 2nd year as a full time gifted instructor. However I taught 7 years in 3rd grade and 3 years in 5th grade as to a cluster grouping of gifted students in my classroom. As a gifted student myself, I love to push and challenge these students to reach their highest potential and overcome obstacles. My other professional endevour includes writing for Kagan Publishing. I have currenly written 10 books and plan to continue my partnership wth them in the future.

My husband and I have a nine year old son, Kolby, who will be entering third grade this year at Ozark. We find ourselves always being amazed by his curiosity and viewpoints on how the world works. I love my role as mom and have become a better teacher for it. We also have a lab-mix dog named Piper and a cat named Books. They add the perfect amount of chaos to our lives!

When I am not teaching in the classroom, I am found teaching swim lessons in the pool. This is a recent adventure for me and I have loved it. This past summer I spent many hours in the pool and found that the experience of teaching swimming has strengthened my passion for the classroom! I have also started Tae Kwon Do with my son to keep active and busy.

In our free-time, my family enjoys going out to dinner, spending time boating at Lake Pomme De Terre, going kayaking around the area, and watching movies while relaxing at home. My personal hobbies include reading, running, being active, and finding new challenges to conquer.
