Roundtable

Promoting Math Inquiry with LEGO EV3 and WeDo 2.0 Robotics

Saturday, November 11
1:15 PM - 2:15 PM
Location: Exhibit Hall Roundtable 4

LEGO Robotics kits can be effectively used to teach all strands of the Common Core Math Standards to upper elementary gifted students. This presentation offers a wide variety of inquiry-based activities that encourage students to generate and test mathematical hypotheses as they build and program simple WeDo 2.0 robots and more advanced EV3 ones. These engaging activities, many of which have open-ended solutions, integrate engineering with mathematical reasoning and calculations involving geometry, fractions, decimals, time and distance. These activities require either no understanding or only a very basic understanding of robot programming. At the session’s conclusion, several EV3 and WeDo 2.0 kits will be given away through a drawing.
