The Alignment of Professional Development Practice and Standards of Practice: A Matrix Approach

Friday, November 10
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Location: Exhibit Hall Roundtable 6

Accepted standards are the hallmarks for best practice that define professional development in gifted education. The standards represent evidence-based practice; thus, the content guides the content of all professional development programming. When educational leaders begin the process of planning professional development in gifted education, the relevant standards represent the benchmarks for the work. Further, standards can be used to plan and implement the formative and summative evaluation of professional development. Therefore, the practice of professional development aligned with the highest standards of excellence is paramount. A matrix is shared to demonstrate the planning, implementation, and assessment of NAGC and other organizational standards in professional development as applied to gifted education.
