Dr. George Betts is Professor Emeritus, and founder and director of the Center for the Education and Study of the Gifted, Talented, and Creative, as well as the founder and director of the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) at the University of Northern Colorado for 35 years. He is an internationally acclaimed speaker and consultant who specializes in assisting schools, districts, states, and national organizations to implement and refine programs for gifted and talented learners. Dr. Betts developed the Autonomous Learner Model (ALM) for the facilitation of lifelong learners. The ALM is implemented throughout the world.

He served on the board of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) for 21 years and received the 1990-1991 Distinguished Service Award from NAGC. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented (CAGT) in 1996.
In 2003, NAGC selected Dr. Betts as one of the 50 Most Influential Leaders in the history of Gifted Education (Profiles of Influence in Gifted Education). In 2006 he received the prestigious M. Lucile Harrison Award for Professional Excellence at the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Betts considers this to be the capstone award of his career, since it was conferred by his professional peers. He is currently serving as President of NAGC.

Angela M. Housand

Angela M. Housand, Ph. D., is an Associate Professor and Academically and Intellectually Gifted Program Coordinator at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). As a consultant, Dr. Housand brings an applied focus to her programs for in-service and pre-service teachers. Over the years, her work has been presented internationally and published in the Journal of Advanced Academics, Gifted Child Quarterly, and High Ability Studies, just to name a few. Regardless of the venue, Dr. Housand’s efforts directly support teachers as they challenge gifted students to achieve advanced levels of performance and become productive members of a global society. Christine Deitz

Dr. Christine Deitz is the current Program Chair for the Middle Grades Network. She is a past A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Award recipient, Curriculum Award winner, Doctoral Student of the Year, and the past Chair of the Middle Grades Network for the National Association for Gifted Children. She is the Associate Director for the Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. A National Board Certified teacher since 2004, Christine has 26 years of public school experience, and worked exclusively with diverse populations of high-ability children for the past 21 years. She is a nationally-recognized educator, author, and consultant for gifted education.

Brian C. Housand

Brian Housand is an associate professor and co-coordinator of the Academically and Intellectually Gifted Program at East Carolina University. Brian proudly identifies himself as a GEEK. In 2014, he received the Max Ray Joyner Award for Outstanding Teaching in Distance Education at ECU. Dr. Housand earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut with an emphasis in both gifted education and instructional technology. He currently serves on the NAGC Board of Directors as a Member-at-Large. Brian frequently presents and works as an educational consultant on the integration of technology and enrichment into the curriculum. He is currently researching ways in which technology can enhance the learning environment and is striving to define creative-productive giftedness in a digital age.
