Develop Meaningful Math Investigations Starting With Delightful Data

Saturday, November 11
3:45 PM - 4:45 PM
Location: 217 BC

In this session, we develop math investigations centered on students' own questions. The key: finding intriguing articles, images, and videos that motivate curious middle schoolers. Why have caffeine-related ER visits increased ten-fold? Which has more sugar, a vegetable drink or a donut? Is a gallon of gasoline or a gallon of mouthwash cheaper? Each example connects with math skills, naturally crosses disciplines, and builds on students' own talents. You'll leave this fast-paced and entertaining session with links to over 50 sample articles as well as pre-built math investigations.
