The World’s Largest Lesson: Utilizing The Global Goals for Sustainable Development to Inspire and Empower

Gifted students often express a connection to issues around the globe. While these students may demonstrate sensitivity for fairness and equity, they may find themselves at a loss for how to make a difference. In this session, we explore the Global Goals for Sustainable Development and how you can use those goals and the tools presented by UNICEF and others in your classroom to help young people take action. Connections to the design thinking process and a problem-seeking framework are included. Join us as we explore ways to help learners be the change.

Micah N. Bruce-Davis

Micah N. Bruce-Davis is an assistant professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She has been a classroom teacher and a research assistant at The National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented. Her research interests include specialized schools and programs, motivation, and the affective needs of gifted students.

Aimee Barber

Aimee Barber is a former first grade teacher and current Elementary and Early Childhood Education instructor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In her methods courses, Aimee is passionate about using current best practices such as problem-based learning, interest-based research, design thinking, and portfolio development to engage pre-service teachers in the methods which they will soon employ in their own classrooms. She has taught within a School-wide Enrichment Model school and has successfully differentiated classrooms with a wide range of ability levels while maintaining a thriving classroom environment of choice, challenge, and creativity. Aimee holds a master's degree in Education of the Gifted and bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
