An exploration of how giftedness affects the transition from childhood to adulthood. This presentation details unique challenges and opportunities afforded the gifted teen preparing to leave home, the gifted young adult who has recently left, and the gifted individual who is struggling to move out on their own. Presenters offer strategies and tools to help clinicians and parents support gifted children before, during, and immediately after leaving their parents' home.

Brandon Tessers

Counselor
Center for Identity Potential

Brandon Tessers is a Marriage and Family Counselor at the Center for Identity Potential in Park Ridge, IL. He has worked with teens, young adults, and their families for over 10 years as an educator and counselor. He has particular expertise in working with individuals and families struggling with issues related to technology and video games, and specializes in working with gifted individuals and atypical learners.

Garrett Hartman is a counselor and the Director of Training and Development for the Center for Identity Potential; offering specialized counseling and consultation services for gifted, talented and exceptional people in the Chicago area. The Center utilizes Andy Mahoney’s Gifted Identity Formation Model to assess the various systems and variables that activate potential in the gifted population. Garrett has extensive experience working with gifted children and adults in individual, family, and group formats. Garrett also collaborates with school professionals to increase the understanding of gifted development and the highly specialized needs of this exceptional population.
