Learn ways to use Frasier’s TABs tool to increase teacher referrals, as well as strategies to create robust programming among K-2 students to address issues of underrepresentation in the gifted eligibility process. The session details campus case studies and action plans, as well as providing details on professional development to address barriers underserved students face in the gifted eligibility process. This session also provides strategies to involve and engage diverse families in the referral process.

Brittany N. Anderson is an Assistant Professor in Urban-Multicultural Education at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education. Brittany is a former Texas educator, who received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Baylor University, and Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Texas. Brittany’s research focuses on pre-service teacher development in relation to the talent development and talent identification of underrepresented youth. Brittany has served as the Mary Frasier STEM Conference graduate coordinator, Torrance Center Summer Institute graduate student coordinator, and Graduate and Professional Students (UGA) Outreach and Service chair.

Katherine B. Brown, Ph.D. is the Gifted and Advanced Specialist for the Clarke County School District where she leads her district in innovative programing, including the International Baccalaureate Programme and the Schoolwide Enrichment Model. She also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia in the Department of Educational Psychology. Katherine Brown has won several awards including the National Association for Gifted Children A.Harry Passow Teacher Scholarship and the Georgia Association for Gifted Children Mary Frasier Equity and Excellence Award.
