Promoting Deeper Understanding and Higher Achievement: 8 Differentiation Strategies

Saturday, November 11
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Location: 217 A

Achievement research concludes that the specific instructional strategies teachers implement are more significant to high achievement than the content of curriculum. Strategies proven to promote complexity, depth, and conceptual understanding rather than mere accumulation of information include engagement; format and nonlinguistic recomposing; analogous thinking; concept summarization; academic vocabulary applications; elaborative rehearsal; noncognitive, social-emotional learning skills; and assessment that guides instruction to benefit students. With humor and fast-paced ideas, experience practical applications of these research-based strategies to promote gifted students’ construction of new understandings, achievement of excellence, and productive learning dispositions. Exit eager to inspire, share, and implement engaging, timesaving applications.
