Rural and Remote: Underrepresentation of Giftedness in the Context of Poverty

Friday, November 10
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Location: 212 A

Underrepresentation of giftedness in the context of poverty is a challenge faced by educators in both urban and rural settings. This study, funded through the Jacob Javits Gifted and Talented Student Education Program, examines second year analysis of three questions: “What local assumptions and beliefs impact recognition of potential in every student in rural settings?” “What impact does professional development in best practice for identification and instructional depth and complexity have on increasing the identification proportionality of diverse students?” “What are the implications for leadership to effect culturally proficient change for every student?” Preliminary results provide applicable recommendations.
